Kirsten’s website is an awesome resource for anyone who wants to find out what the digital nomad lifestyle is REALLY like. She doesn’t sell a rainbow dream or the “fake” passive income lifestyle. Her journey to become location independent was HARD and she makes sure to tell the truth. She’s been traveling for over fifteen years now, what she doesn’t know about being a digital nomad isn’t worth knowing.

4. Hippie In Heels
Did you know over 70% of digital nomads are females? How cool is that! Hippie In Heels is a perfect example of a badass chick making money online and living life on her terms. This American left the States for a life spent on the beaches of beautiful Goa.
Most digital nomads start off wanting to travel the world while working. Backpacking through countries and staying in hostels. This is fun at first but after a while, most location independent souls get tired of the constant travel. There are lots of downsides to backpacking and constant travel, it’s not all beaches and rainbows.
It’s hardwork to travel while working. It’s a lot easier to stay put in a place for a month or a couple of months at a time. Enjoying a slower pace of travel and getting a real feel for a place, embracing the culture and learning about a different way of life.

When I was trying to become location independent, it took me at least 6 months before I was earning more than $1000 a month. And then after a year of consistent, hard work, I was making $2-3000 a month online mainly through Upwork.
If you are serious about becoming location independent and making money online, then I would recommend you to either start your venture alongside your current job. Only quit when you are making enough to sustain yourself.
Or, if you have enough savings to fund your travels for a year while you are building up your income from your online business. Being location independent is an incredible experience but it doesn’t come easy! There are lots of good and bad points to being location independent. But if you’re young and free with no responsibilities, then take advantage of that and see if you can make the digital nomad dream come true!
